The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) is pleased to welcome and support the initiative of the ANU Latin American Students Association (LASA) to present the first ANU “Latin America Week” from 18-24 September 2023.

The program for the event traverses a diverse range of activities - from language to cinema, from dance to football, from studying Latin America at ANU to comparing Australian and Latin American approaches to Indigenous issues. It provides an excellent opportunity for students, staff and the general public to better understand aspects of the history, politics, culture, and lifestyle of Latin America, and the experience of ANU students and researchers on themes related to the region. Latin America Week is also supported by the Latin American Embassies based in Canberra.

ANCLAS will be participating directly in three events:

  • Careers in Spanish (on 20 September),
  • an Indigenous Voice (jointly with the First Nations Portfolio) on 21 September and
  • Studying Latin America at ANU (on 22 September).

The Centre encourages students, academics and friends of Latin America to participate in as many elements of the “Latin America Week” program that they can.
